is there a way i can get mce 2005 for cheaper than neweggs $110
iam not asking for illegal downloading but a site or store or a sale/rebate

thanks

MCE is great for such things as multimedia etc, but I do not believe it is worth the money, if you are buying it as OEM, and not buying the system pre-built.

MCE supports tv viewing, but it must be configured with a TV card. So 110USD for Mce and 50USD for the card. The software that the card comes with is just as good, so instead of forking out for mce, you could get your self a decent tv card, dvd-rw drive and sound card.

If you are still looking for mce, i dout you will find cheaper then newegg, but as omega says, try froogle.

If you decide to use it, make sure your hardware meets the requirements before wasting your money. There are different requirements from XP home or pro.

MCE 2005 requires at least a 1.6 GHz (or equivalent) processor, DirectX 9.0 hardware-accelerated GPU (such as a recent ATI Radeon X series or nVidia GeForce 6 series), and 256 MB of System RAM. Some functionality, such as Media Center Extender support, use of multiple tuners, or HDTV playback/recording carries higher system requirements.

Media Center is much more restricted in the range of hardware that it supports than most other software DVR solutions. Media Center tuners must have a standardized driver interface, and they must have hardware MPEG-2 encoders, closed caption support, and a number of other features. Media Center remote controls are standardized in terms of button labels and functionality, and, to a degree, general layout.

A TV Tuner card is not req'd, but if you want to use your PC to watch tv, then it is req'd

You DO NOT need anything else to run MCE that you wouldnt need for XP or PRO.

You don't need a TV Tuner, i'm not using one either. It simply has a few features that make it much easier to use as a media center PC.

And it has advantages over Home, because it has many useful Pro utilities built-in.

And also, it doesn't require a more powerful computer to run then any other version of XP.
