i know a guy who has vista and he loves it, it recognizes anything he plugs in and everything is clearer

now do i want vista or MCE 2005

and whats up with crisis or crysis with overrated specs?

I wouldn't know about Crysis but I know that several are planning to stay with XP for the time being until a second edition or service pack with fixes is out. It took me some extra time to get out of 98 originally and skip over the ME flop! I am certainly hoping Vista is not another one there?!

Yeah, I agree, stay away from Vista for at least a year. MS has a definite track record of producing terrible OSs when they are first published, very buggy. The year should give them enough time to get most of the big problems fixed. (or to find out if it's a lemon like ME was... :))

Vista vs MCE currently as of now for your main OS? MCE. Vista and XP? Definitely XP. Depending on which version of Vista he has, a lot of generic and ms drivers has been added, so that should account to whatever he plugs in.

Everything for Vista at this time is still in beta. That includes all drivers. Apparently that person doesn't install too much on the system to be happy with a beta release. :P

When XP first came out you no longer had to worry about drivers for 3Com 56K modems since XP already had them available. LIke wise Vista will included a list of default drivers for the increase seen in the amount of hardwares available. Now try installing some favorite games on there and ??? The beta versions are mere let's say "reflections" of an OS to begin with. That's like comparing Zone Alarm free to the full retail package. You don't get much! :(

MCE is a stripped down version of XP Pro, with a few cool little apps. Vista isn't even released yet, so you can't compare them..

If you're asking if you should buy XP Home or XP MCE, deffinetly MCE.

If MCE is a stripped down version of XP Pro the same is true about it being a stripped down version of XP Home. The differences between the Home and Pro versions it is more name and a few files only.

Stripped down home? haha, theres nothing to strip :P

MCE has many features that XP Pro has, but XP Home does not. I don't feel like looking them up to find them, but there are more similarities to Pro then Home.

I'm afraid to tell you this but there isn't a whole lot of difference seen the two versions of XP. I have them both running here to compare them side by side. The Pro version adds the three dos files of msdos.sys, config.sys, and IO.sys at the root of C. That gives a little more backward support for 16bit apps especially on networks.

Besides a few other networking support files added in along with the extra cd that comes along in the retail box everything looks and runs "identical". Even the default splash screens are the exact same when Windows first loads. When you have both of them running in front of you at the same time then you'll find out fast there.
