Me and comp gettin old

Hey guys, I know very little about these things, I have a 6 yr old H.P. dual hard drive with 75 gb of menory, with "Roadrunner" hooked up. The day I got it 6 yrs ago it was fast, videos and waves went smooth, no stopping. Now the videos and waves stop to let the comp. catch up.
I have done every scan I have read about "A squared free, Spybot-bot, Easycleaner, SUPERantispyware" but is still slow. What I am asking do these just get old or is there sokething I can do to get it back up to speed.

Have you defragged your system lately? Deleted your temp files? Uninstalled programs you don't use anymore? Updated your drivers? There are a lot of things that could be causing this issue.

If you have all your important data and drivers backed up somewhere, and you have the install or repair CD's for your HP you could do a reformat, and your computer will perform like new. if you do just be sure to load your anti virus on there before anything else.

You could try all these things but if you have'nt done a re-install within those 6 years, it might be time to refresh it that way.

Same as above. If its been installed for 6 years. Back up everything you want do save. Download all the drivers you need and save them. Then do a clean install.

Thanks

Thanks for all the replys, I have dome a restore, and defrag, I was asking does the hard drive wear out, and slow down or is it full of junk that I can't get out.

hard drives definately wear out and yes they accumulate junk and stuff over time!

You can always clean up your drive! As mentioned above, a full format and reinstall is the sure fire way to refresh and start new again.

It will remove any and all junk, but make sure you backup your critical/essential data, files, etc.

Yeah - Windows + the internet stores things on your HDD that you don't know about.

How full is your HDD? Go to my computer - and right click on the drive and select properties to see a pie chart of how much is used. If it's getting really full - that can dramatically slow the performance of an older PC. Even moreso if you don't have an adequate amount of RAM. Today's internet doesn't resemble what it was 6 years ago -with all the content they've put on most sites.
