My wife hates me spending so much ca$h on my PC, so I want to do something for her. She wants a media center PC, so I want to get one for her for her birthday.
i would Like a voodoo Epic

or a Shuttle XPC

I want something with 2 or 3 tv tuner cards and 7.1 surround sound capabilities for my 7.1 living room system.

Someone told me that I could use something called a Slingbox to transfer Media Center from my main PC to my TV, but they are 2 floors apart so i doubt that will work.

Any Suggestions?

Since its a media center you probably want something queit. Sounds like a dothan (PM) would be good for you... Why dont you want to build it?

Might wanna check out mini-itx.com
also, if u would go for a mini-itx machine, u can build it yourself and disguise it in something that is normally in ur living room or w/e. really just check out some of the projects.

my wife said she would like something inconspicuous. She wants something that can eliminate the use of the VCR tapes. I need a dual layer DVD burner so I can put whole seasons of shows in storage so I can watch them later. I want AT LEAST 500 gigs of space and I was thinking about getting a pentium M processor. My wife has a Dell 6000 notebook so I think I will get a 160 gig drive to back-up and use as her space.:)

you can build one really cheap and there are Programs muh more robust then Windows Media center that are Open Source. Just order the parts to your work and spend lunch putting it together.

Good idea! very good idea! thanks! My budget is about 1800 USD. in about a week I will have 2000 USD spendable. I just want somthing that really nice that she will like.

You'll be using Microsofts Media Center 2005?

Seems like a pretty simple computer....

AMD 3500,
1GB RAM
6800GT is overkill but good for DVD
Creative X-Fi Platinum Sound card, since its gonna be hooked up to your house speakers... its a expensive but good card. If you host parties and such... or just enjoy music all around your house.
and 500GB? Since you'll be putting everything on DVD, you can delete it from PC after that... no need for such a big HD. Right?

Now just use which ever Media Center you want to, Microsofts or others...

I guess. my son said if we get one he would play his strategy games on it, so I would like a 7800GT. I do have some parties, and my kids have some too. I want it to be a decent gaming rig for my son, totally silent, and able to run for at least a 72 hour period straight.
