Okay, downstairs i have a router (router1) connected to a modem, that connects to the internet..

Upstairs, i have my laptop and a desktop computer.

What i want to do is have router2 connected to the desktop to allow me to access all of my files wirelessly, and maybe have router1 connect to router2 and extend the internet to the upstairs so i get a better signal...

but mostly i want to have media streaming... but the problem is, i can't get router2 to work, it only works when i have it connected directly to the modem, and make it have access to the internet...

what settings do i have to change to get it to do what i want??

router1: belking+mimo
router2: netgear wgr614v9

Most likely you are using the wan port on the second router and you can't. Here is the procedure.

router 1 - wireless on, dhcp on, example ip address is 192.168.1.1

router 2 - wireless on, dhcp off, example ip address is 192.168.1.2

Use a cable to go from one of the 4 ports on router 1 to one of the 4 lan ports on router 2. Do not use the internet port. You must setup router 2 prior to connecting it to router 1.
