Memory blues :(

Hi there,

I have just built my self a brand new AMD machine, and I have had nothing but problems starting to wish I never bothered now.

Any way, my computer will boot perfectly into windows but then randomly lock up and restart then does not get past POST just a black screen and through my speakers I hear “System failed memory test”

This is what I have done. Ran memtest, first time after 12 minutes I get 545382+ errors that was Pass 40% second time 5 minutes Pass 14%

I have re-seated the memory a number of times but that did not help; I changed the BIOS memory settings to:

CAS 2.5
RAS to CAS 3
Row Precharge 3

That then got me to 70% pass I was to tired to carry on so I stopped it (foolish of me) so next time I boot my pc up I get into windows start to browse the net and then it restarts and does nothing just that lovely “System failed memory test” sound, spent the next 10 minutes trying to get the f***ing thing to boot.

Here are my system specs:

A8N-SLI Premium
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400
Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX Link to my memory
Hiper HPU-4K580 Power Supply
XFX 7800GT 256MB

And btw don’t think it’s a overheating problem, CPU 35oC MB 40oC and I have a ThermalTake Kandalf VA9000BWS (and it’s a monster takes me and one other person to move it, don’t want to be taking that apart to many times)

Any help would be much appreciated,

its probably defective memory. send it back for a new pair... although i do trust corsair, you cant rule anything out. maybe the motherboard as well... although that motherboard looks trustworthy too.

i duno... try taking everything out and putting it all back in, including the processor. if that doesnt work then send the ram back and get a new pair.
 
that not much you can do, if the sticks are buggered return them. defective ram can act v strangly, it can go ages without problems, you can be up and running for hours before the defect surfaces. Your memtest results speak for them selves. Return it
 
My advice is to restore the factory timings and so forth. Your motherboard may not be able to support the overclocking you are doing.

Reset the memory and try again.

Yeah, I would not blame it on being an AMD system. There is very little you can do with defective memory other than return it. What memory brand is it?

Hi there,

Thank you for your fast replies, I have taken the memory sticks out of my computer and replaced them with two 512 sticks made by Kingston and every things seems to be fine, and when I put the Corsair into my old computer that has a P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard and ran memtest it got to 12 errors then the programme crashed.

Just out of interest are the Corsair sticks I have 100% compatible?

Any way, I shall be sending them back and having them replaced, I will let your know if the new ones are any better.

Yea, their compatable. someones got to get the odd lemon though.
