Memory card recovery

My memory card filled to capacity. I downloaded the pics. on my WD external hard drive, deleted the pics. on the memory card and used it again with new pics. Come to find out later, the hard drive was broken, couldn't recover the pics. My question is , can I recover the old pics. off of the memory card even though I have re used it?
 
The card was full, after deleting ,only some new pics. were installed, so wouldn't there be free space where some old pics. can be recovered? were no new pics. are over writing it?

If I understand your question you are asking: If the card was full before deleting and the new pics didn't take up so much space wouldn't there be data of the old pics still there?

Well, that's not precisely how removable storage works. It's easier to recover files from a comp HDD because of the format and the fact that the OS usually keeps data. Removable storage has a different format and doesn't keep old data (because, well it's removable).

When I used Recuva on my portable HDD I was deleting things off the HDD, hadn't put anything on it, and had just moved the files instead of deleting them. So they were found relatively easily. Since you've recently used the card I can't tell you how easy recovering them is going to be. Good luck.

I have no idea what the technical explanation for that stuff up there is but I hope I explained it. If I didn't maybe someone with more knowledge can help.

Theres a decent chance you can recover a good portion of the pictures if you haven't taken many more since deleting them.

I'd reccomend downloading the parted magic live cd and using the built in program called PhotoRec. It has worked very well for me in the past. HERE is a link.
 
So far I have used all the above programs, but have only gotten the new pics. that are recently downloaded on the memory card.
 
you use the delete right, that can usually be recovered. But if you formatted the card then no, they are lost.
 
When the card showed that it was full, the pics. were deleted using the camera button, then we continued to use the card. There are not many new pics. on the card now.So far when I use one of the free programs above, I'm only seeing the recent pics., not the deleted ones.
