memory compatability question?

I have an alienware with duel channel memory setup. it has 2 sticks of ddr2 sdram, 256mb each at 533mhz. i ordered another 2x256 sticks of memory, also ddr2 sdram, also 533mhz. the only difference is, on my alienware's invoice it says what i have is pc 4200. What I ordered is pc2 4200. I know that what I ordered is the same physical size, so Im thinking it should be compatible, but does anyone know if it might not be? Also ddr2 sdram running on pc 4200 was really rare. (i checked for stuff on newegg, where i bougth my extra ram) it seems that like 99% of ddr2 sdram works of pc2 speeds. I just ordered this yesterday, so I have a few days to cancel it if you guys think it wont work. >.> Thanks a lot.

PC4200 and PC2 4200 are very different. I assume you have an Intel CPU (if you didn't DDR2 is out of the question) but what chipset does it have?

intel 945 chipset. will it not work =/ on newegg, they dont even have 512 (2x256) ddr2 sdram at pc4200. they only have like one thing on the whole site thats ddr2 sdram that runs on pc4200 as opposed to pc2. it seems weird that my comp would have that.

edit: Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 521 w/ HT Technology 2.8GHz 800MHz FSB 1MB

Motherboard: Alienware® PCI Express Motherboard with Intel® 945 Chipset

hope that helps

Yes, that's all I needed to know. Your Alienware invoice should say PC2-4200, probably a typo on their part.

edit: oops should probably say this too just to be clear, your new RAM is compatible

hmm..excuse me for going on a rant, but mankind, for all its advances in the fields of technology and science, lacks one ability. That is the ability to send things to me properly. I cannot recall the last time I ordered something and it was sent to me in a timely manner, with the proper product recieved, undamaged. What now, you ask? The brilliant minds at newegg send me 1 of the 2 requested 256mb ram sticks. Surely a large company such as them would kindly respond to such a blunder by sending me the remainder of my product in a timely manner, yes? Ah you would think that! No. I must first RETURN THE PRODUCT AT MY OWN EXPENSE. they will then send me another product via 3 day shipping. Bravo!

That sucks, luckily RAM is small and light so it shouldn't be more than the minimum fee to ship back. You have to ship it back because they want to send you a packaged pair, 2 single sticks are a different price then 1 paired set

still messed up on newegs part
usually there shipping is good, but when it messes up, it does so with sever consequences.

on each package of the 2 256 cards it says 2x256. i think somebody at newegg got confused, saw that, and saw my order for quantity of 1..and just thought that would be it.

update: so my dad made an angry phonecall, and they sent me two new ones..didnt have to return the original one. i installed the two new ones and when i tried to start up the comp it beeped twice and did nothing. >.> i turned it off, tried again, and it booted up fine. i thought it was some strange one-time glitch, but next day (today) the same thing happened repetedly...i called up Alienware tech support and we did a few tests. seems like one stick of ram was having problems, so i replaced it with the one they sent me originally. its been working since, but does anyone have any idea why this would have happened?

Theres a small chance that one stick was bad, not very likely but if replacing one works then thats the most likely cause
