memory confusion

I jus built my new computer and i'm confused as to where to put the memory. I have 2 512 mb sticks. Do i put them in DIMM 1 & 2 or 1 & 3?

depends how your board is configured, you can put it in 1 & 2 or 1 & 3. Just try it.

if your motherboard's ram slots are coloured they usually colour the 1 & 3 the same colour, in which case put them in those slots!

I assume you talking about dual channel
what motherboard is it? Having 3 ram slots suggests non dual channel board to me. Are you sure that the board support dual channel?
Either way if it does it will say in the manual -which will be online if you've lost it

If your motherboard supports dual channel then read up on it in your manual as apj101 said.

well, either the manual wasn't too clear on that part, or i'm just stupid and don't understand it. My signature tells u which mobo i have. Gigabyte GA-K8NS ultra. the manual says that Channel A has DDR 1, DDR 3. Channel B has DDR 2 and 4. So do i put one stick in each color or both in the same color.
