Memory dump: how do you do it?

I'm really into crypto... One of the keys to strong cryptography is strong overall security...

So I learned that you can sometimes retrieve a pass key by doing a memory dump of a system. Cool huh? I want to harden my machine against this attack, BUT I would also like to try it on my PC, because it sounds neat and interesting.

So how do you dump the memory from your comp? Either Mac or PC.
