Memory empty!!! :o

Hello I have a wiundows computer dell. Os XP

Memory is 400 GB but now I get a message that there is only 4 GB left om HD?!?
How?
Is there any free easy-to-understand software out there that can tell me exactly what is on the HD and how much space each thing takes, I feel forced to clean the HD from things I don't use. But I don't realluy know what is needed and not for the function of the computer.

As you can see, I am new in the field. I hope someone could enlighten me.

i would suggest first run CCleaner to delete all your temp and trash files that are just taking up space.
then go through your personal files and back them up to cd/dvd and leave only the ones you use more offten on the computer.
also, uninstall programs that you don't use anymore.
don't mess with any system files (windows) folder.

Usually if you are running out of hard drive space really quick it means you have an infection of some kind and its replicating itself. I would do a virus scan and an malware scan using AVG Free edition and Malwarebytes Antimalware.

I like Space Monger for finding files taking up space on a HDD. There are newer programs but I like the way Space Monger displays the results. Here's a note get the free 1.4 version not the newer pay version.
