PLEASE HELP:

Hard Drive is full and I am asking about which software / files I can delete?

1. "Windows Securities Updates"? I must have 30-35 listed in The Add/Remove Programs Folder.....all start with the letters KB........

2. I have both the "Windows Installer 3.1 and 3.1V2". Can I delete 3.1?

3. Duplicate Files---I have the No-Clone software, but what extensions are safe to delete?

4. Many regular "Windows Updates"....do I need all of them?

5. Also several "Windows Hot Fix" updates...I need all of them?

6. A "Power Re Touche Demo"...what's that? Do I need it.

7. Window Media Player 11 (Windows Media Player) AND Windows Media Format 11 runtime (Windows Media Player) AND Windows Media Format 11 runtime (WMFdist11) AND Windows Media Player 11 (wmp).......need all of these?

8. Oh, and the Virtual Memory Paging File notification message is popping up every day telling me the paging file is being expanded.

Sorry for the whole list but I am a nephyte with computers.....my deskto is a Sony PCV-2222 purchased about 4 years ago. Never upgraded the memory as I am not sure that I can.

under the c:\windows you can change folder options to show all files including hidden ones. All the garbled folders that will be at the top that are normally hidden can be deleted.

c:\windows\temp contents can be deleted

all the temp files in your user accounts can be deleted.

any program you no longer use can be uninstalled

honestly though considering how cheap Hard drives are these days just go buy an additional HDD

Install Webroot's Windows Washer. It's what I use.

When you use it for the first time, it deletes a LOT of useless junk. I use it loads of times, so it won't kill anything.

You can tell it to leave areas alone, like your internet cookies/url history etc.

So in your topic you say you memory is full, and in your post you say it's your hard drive.
By the look of things, because what you said about the page file expanding (virtual memory expanding) it's your memory that you don't have enough of, and it's using more of your hard drive for virtual memory.
So which is it?

Stryak,

As I mentioned, I am not very knowledgeable on the diff. between hard drive, virtual paging file, memory..... So I cannot answer your question intelligently. I did research this info on my computer from System Mechanic. Hopefully this helps you help me:

Memory Level---------------19% available
Free System memory--------64.81mb (27%)
Total Physical--------------247.52mb
Total Page File--------------606.40mb
Available Page File----------163.61mb (26%)
Total Virtual----------------1.80GB (90%)

Enabled Startup Programs ----124
Running Programs-------------43

Yeah it looks like you don't have enough RAM. You should have at least 512 MB RAM for Windows XP (this is what I assume you have) to run well, and to not page out to the hard drive so much.

erm...if you want to free up hard drive space, why not uninstall a large game you don't play anymore. it'll probably free up much more space then uninstalling the stuff you listed (which wont even free up half a gig)
