Memory Issue

Hello everyone.

I have Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Editon (R2 SP2) installed on my PC(Foxconn 945G7MD-8EKRS2H motherboard).

I was wondering:

I bought 4 x 1GB 667 240-Pin memory for it the other day. I installed it today and it only shows up in System Properties as "3.24GB of RAM". I have also enabled PAE (added the /PAE switch to the end of the operating system in the boot.ini file; also shows in System Properties that Physical Address Extension is enabled).

I was wondering if there's anything else that I have to do to make this show as 4GB. I have tried creating separate page files (which work fine), and also making the paging file bigger in the System Properties.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ryan

Its because your using a 32 bit version and not a 64bit version so it can't address the full 4GBs.

Update to a 64bit Vista Business if you want to use all 4 or more.

Also mate I just had a look, and Windows Server 2003 Enterprise suppose to be able to address up to 32GB through PAE?

Am I missing something here lol

Thanks

if i remember correctly with a 32Bit OS you can use up to 3.(something)GB of RAM where as with a 64Bit you can use a lot more (cant remember value)...

Yes, 32bit enterprise can address way more than 4GB, but your hardware has the final word. It has to support more than 4GB of address space plus memory remapping. Your board supports neither.

Mate, thanks for the reply.

I found the same information about my motherboard earlier, and wanted a second opinion on the information. You just gave me what I was looking for mate. Thanks again :)
