Memory issue?

So a week or two ago I went to sleep and put my computer to sleep ( or shut down can't really remember) , the next morning I woke up and tried to start up my computer and it gave me beeping errors luckily the beep codes for my brand of mobo was quite easy and meant a ram error.

So after trying a lot what I think is one of my ram sticks is dead, but sometimes when I put that same ram stick in the computer starts up but does not recognize my other 4gb (I should have 8gb). What makes this weirder is that the Can You Run It website lists in my pc specs that i have 8.2 gb of memory but my own computer dosen't recognize that?

specs:

Processor AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 960T Processor
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670
Memory 8.2 GB (but computer is using 4)
Operating System Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional Edition (build 9600), 64-bit
PSU: Corsair CX600

Also un-related minor problem, when ever I am playing games my computer tends to kind of alt tab or return to desktop twice every couple of hours (around twice a day) don't know why it does that

What motherboard do you have? Have you tried each stick in different slots?

Gigabyte Motherboard 970A-UD3 I've tried other slots I feel like some slots gave a boot error while others just dont recognize the ram not sure if that is really it though but im pretty sure the slots are working. As i moved the working ram around also.

I've had a few of the same board. Have you tried resetting the bios and see what happens? How much memory does the bios say you have?

Pretty sure, my Ram stick is dead at least I think so, because I restarted took out my good ram and put in my assumed dead ram in a slot and tried to boot I tried this with every slot and it gives me the no ram error beep. Bios says I have 4gb ram I tried resetting ( i assume setting to fail safe defaults or optimized defaults) is resetting bios? But yea I did that and still only have 4gb Ram.
