Memory Options

I want to know what type of memory options I have, so I can upgrade. I have a dell, so I dont know what I can use. From awhile back, when i asked a question, i was told to download "CPU-Z", and from that it says my mobo is a Dell, model:0M3918, Chipset:intel i915P/i915G, Southbridge:intel 82801FB(ICH6), Sensor:ITE 7601, Rev.:B1

If only I knew what i this meant.

o, and heres the information about my current memory: DDR2, 256MB, Single Channel, 199.5mhz frequency, FSB: DRAM 1:1, Cas# Latency 3.0 clocks, Ras# to Cas#A Delay 3 clocks, Ras# Precharge 3 clocks, Cycle Time (Tras) 8 clocks.

So if anyone can help me out with what memory to choose, that would be awesome thanks!

Your Going too need too get the same type of ram you already have.

Which is.

DDR2

Any DDR2 Ram will work in your computer.

Although there is big differences between the quality.

Find some you like, repost, we will tell you what we think

Not any DDR2 memory if the board doesn't support over 533 or 667mhz. The specifications for that model would show the memory speed supported. Samsung DDR2-SDRAM PC3200 - 256 MBytes was seen on one CPU-Z report seen at http://www.freewebs.com/dsam59003/cpuz.html suggesting DDR2 400 upto 533 on that model. The actual specs need a look however.

What do you think of that memory. From what i read on this site, i think its a good brand. However what do you all think about going with one 1GB or 2 512mb sticks. My motherboard doesn support the dual something, and it has 4 memory slots. So, Im thinking if i put these thwo in the first 2 slots, then my old 512mb in the third, it would just be cheaper, because i dont plan on upgrading any further.

A DDR2 board that doesn't offer the dual channel mode? You may want to review the manual for the board on installing memory there. If you see multicolored dimm slots the board is dual channel capable.

Maybe I was wrong, then. Last time i checked, I think two slots were yellow, two green. So in this case, 2 512mb sticks would be better correct? Because they allow the use of dual channel mode.

I suspect the green as the primary slots for each channel while advising a look in the manual for installing memory there. Two equal sized dimms of the same type of memory and speed would obviously see the best performance and stability with the dual channel mode enabled. You may also want to consider a good matched pair of 1gb dimms especially if you intend to run Vista at all. 256mb of memory sertainly isn't much to work with.

Hopefully you will run those stock since they lack heat spreaders. The timings are good for the low price seen on them. 4-4-4-12 With the Kingston DDR2 800 memory here you see 4-4-4-14 for the 2gb of Hyper X memory. For 2gb of performance memory while beiing 533mhz you still see a good price there. I looked the $115 seen on Dell's 2gb kit seen at their support site and said no way. :P

You'll see those on the more expansive top brands like Corsair, Kingston, OCZ, and a few others with gaming memory that people oc alot with. For simply running a stock build there's no requirement. Lately newegg has been dropping prices on a number of things like the Antec 900 model case. While they had it priced for $130-140 others from July on were seeing sales for under $100.

http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemai...edeals&CMP=EMC-IGNEFL100907&ATT=Moredealspage is the newsletter showing the sale yet a trip to newegg directly shows it for $129.99 as seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021

The price on the 2gb kit there is still a catch however. The jump from 1gb upto 2gb is when you'll the largest boost memory wise over some thinking 4gb will see that much of a boost as well. Plus things will seem to run smoother too like any desltop apps you have.
