memory problems

I have a Compaq Presario 5wv254 700mhz
64mb ram running windows XP

I recently purchased some ram off ebay
I got two sticks of toshiba 256mb DIMM PC100 SDRAM ECC REG
As far as I know I think this ram should be compatible

After I installed it I went to boot the computer and I got a couple of error messages at the COMPAQ screen
At the top it said 64MB OK
Then it reads:
04000000 B3 201-Memory Error
164-Memory Size Error

Then it gives me the option of pressing F1 to boot or F10 to enter setup
The Setup doesn't seem to have anything useful

I've tried different combinations of setting up the ram but it doesn't help
If I try just putting in a stick of the new ram the computer will turn on but the monitor remains blank

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I'm not positive but I am pretty sure that you got the wrong type of RAM. ECC ram doesnt sound correct for a basic Compaq.

The bandwith will only run as fast as ur mobo will let them. Do u know the Max Ram ur mobo can take?

Press print Scrn button at top of keyboard
Go into paint, press paste
Then select the cpuz screen and delete the rest
save file and attach to post

You can mix 100 &125, but they will run at lowest speed 100.

ECC REG I beleive is server memory, usually doesn't work on regular desktop.
