The new graphic cards are ddr3...

computer memory these days are usually ddr2...

anyone know if ddr3 memory for computers are out yet or
coming out soon? thanks...

also.. how do you check to see how much memory your motherboard can
handle?

and if you buy a motherboard that uses DDR2... can you put DDR1 on it?
 
Graphics cards use GDDR memory, different than the desktop varieties, and even faster than ddr3.

DDR3 memory and motherboards are available now, but they're expensive and at this point serve little point, as performance isn't any better than ddr2.

Find the motherboard make and model with a system info app like everest or PCwizard and look it up.

No siree. They operate at different voltages and beside this, are physically incompatible with one anothers slots.
 
Yes theres DDR3. What make and model motherboard do you have? No you cant use DDR on a board sloted for DDR2
 
I just wanted to know because I'm going to be putting together 2 new PCs.

So DDR2 is better than DDR3 at this point but DDR3 will be better later?

If DDR3 will be better than DDR2 in the future then I'd rather buy that now.

Just wanted to ask before I start buying things.

Only a couple of the newest motherboards can handle DDR3 RAM. From benchmarking the DDR3 shows only a modest improvement over DDR2 at about 5% increase in speed.
 
DDR3 is a waste of money really, DDR2 RAM generally runs at 800MHz, DDR3 around 1066MHz. If you get some decent DDR2 RAM, something like Crucial Ballistix you can easily OC them to 1066Mhz, even on stock voltage @ 2.2v. Although, you may have to losen the timings to 5-5-5-15...

I'd do that and save yourself some money! ;)
 
if you have a good mobo you can get ddr2 1066 and the mobo will let you oc it too 1200 mhz, but theres ddr3 1800 and 2000 now, but the timing on those is terrible and their sooooo expensive. but the bandwidth is a lot higher on ddr3 which is practically the only selling point right now, and lower voltages
