If you combine two or more sticks of RAM of different brands, will they still work???

Yes, it'll work. But you'll probably loose dual channel capabilties if you have it.

yeah, i have 4-slots, im using 2 x 256MB (dual-channel) but i want to upgrade to at least 1GB, and i dont know if i should just get 2 x 256MB more or get rid of the one i have and get 2 x 512MB...

Also, how much more performance does a dual-channel kit give in comparison to a non-dual channel?
