Memory ram usage Windows 10

I have a laptop with 16 GB of ram. Only 29% of it is being used and I have a game in the background and 249 firefox tabs most of which are not loaded. I was brought up that unused memory is wasted.

How do I get windows 10 to use more memory?

Why would you want to use more memory? Most laptops won't need more than 6-8gb of ram.

If more of my apps, desktop files and windows resources are in the memory ready to go they will open really fast instead of waiting for them to be loaded from my hard drive. If windows needs the memory it can easily drop whatever is not needed.

Thats not the way ram works. If you want fast application load times or boot times, then you need to install an SSD drive, thats what they are designed for. What exact model number of hard drive do you have? What are your system specs? What cpu do you have? How many programs are loading at bootup? Do you have malware on your system?

So, load the application once and then close it. It will be stuck into cached RAM as you are requesting, and dropped if more RAM is needed, however you won't see your mystical 'utilization' figure jump.

Alternatively store your data on a RAM disk. You might find that these workarounds are more work than benefit. If you want faster non-volatile storage, get a SSD.

I have 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory and I have never been able to max the memory, the most I have ever used is 4.5 GB and that is with a Windows 7 VM dedicating 3 GB and several other apps running. Honestly with my core i7 I would max out my CPU before I could max out 16 GB of memory.
