memory reading

Hi every body,
I add 2-512 to my existing 2-512 but I get chipset limitation message.
my computer can handle 2 GB. the memories are the same. I have XP pro 32 bits. 2 GB shows at "system info" but only shows 1 GB when I right click "my computer" icon. In BIOS also shows 1024 MB. the mother board is
"ASUS P5GPL". any idea? is this some thing to do with BIOS?

What happens when you take out the old memory and just use the new memory? How much memory does it show? It's either bad or incompatible memory with the old set or something else.
