Memory Speed Problems

RAM is not the part of a computer than I know a lot about. I do understand that RAM and the CPU are very close components; so I have added their links here:

I am in the process of "overclocking" my CPU and these speeds caught my eye. CPU-Z is only reading the frequency at 468.8 megahertz. This is a problem considering I want the sticks to be at 800 megahertz, or even better, 1066 with an overclock. Here is an image:

go about doing what? you just need to mathematically multiply the number shown to get the speed your ram is running at. like i said, you are already running at 936.

I have a setting in my bios that I can change to make it 1066 (it's currently at 800). Can I do that?
 
well, since your memory is running at 936, you have already overclocked it. make sure that you don't have any problems with them thus far (you might possibly need to up the voltage a tad if you have stability issues). to overclock your ram further you need to overclock your cpu further.
 
Yeah, you see, the RAM is set to be clocked at a 2:1 ratio to the CPU FSB. Since yours is 234Mhz, your RAM is now running at 468Mhz, which when you add in the effect of double data rate (ddr) memory, makes it 936Mhz. With some motherboards (maybe most, I'm not that big in this field) you can change the ratio so your RAM runs even faster, or slower. Also, since I think it applies here anyway, what percentage can RAM usually be overclocked? Corsair RAM can probably be overclocked better than OEM RAM, but I'm just wondering what an average would be. Also, companies like Corsair and Gskill are just retail brands of Samsung, right? What about Micron? (Yep, you guessed it, leftover RAM from a Dell :) )

my bios are kind of weird. with my athlon 64 x2 i couldn't set any ratios but when i upgraded to a phenom ii 955 i could set the ratio :confused: had the same motherboard too...

to be honest, the difference between 936 and 1066 is not going to affect you at all really. i doubt anything would be noticeable.
 
Does a person buy a Ferrari to race with? No, he buys it to show off. That's essentially what I want to do.
