memory timings

The memory i have is 512mb elixir pc3200 ddr 400. in the bios there are 4 settings i can change for memory. Currently they are
T-(RAS) = 7
T-(RCD) = 3
T-(RP) = 3
Cas laten = 2.5

Some posts i read suggested tightening the timings. I'd like to know if the timings i have now by default should be changed or if there ok. Some people posted that they had 2,2,2,6 and 2,2,2,5 but i have no clue as far as memory goes what the timings should be for more stability/efficiency.

For the most stable, go with the defaults. As for manually tweaking the timings, read the spec information that comes with the Kingstons :) If its not listed there or u want to push it, try doing so slowly :)

yea i have 2-2-2-5 timings, corsair xms rules.
id tighten them. make sure they at least have a heatspreader though.
your timing are therefore: 2.5-3-3-7. normal would be 2-3-3-6.
basically, timings are how long the memory waits to do the next thing. the smaller the timing, the less time it wait to do the next thing. the term for this is latency.
the lower the timings, the less time the memory has to get rid of heat, and the more heat is produced. its that simple.
also note: overclocking ram can be dangerous. if i were you id get an extra stick of 512mb and then it'll run dual channel (if your motherboard supports it)

dont feel bad, my uncle bought a sony vaio and his ram is timed as 3-3-3-8.
you CAN notice a difference.

the main tiiming that make a difference is cas, and id say the 99.99% of users CAN NOT tell the difference between cas 2 and cas 2.5.
