Hi everyone,

Can any body tell me how can I know what's the biggest memory I can use to upgrade the existing one.
My computer is a desktop sony vaio XP home edition, version 2002, service pack 2, pentium 4, 2.40GHZ, 480 of RAM.

Thank you for any information.

Rene.

Would need to know the exact model number of your system to be able to tell you that.

What exact model of Sony Vaio do you have?

I did some searching for your computer but could only find new all-in-one desktops.

If you can give me an exact model number of tell me more about it...I will be able to help you better:)

The model number you have posted is listed on the back of the computer correct? It showed PCV-7762?

On the front of the computer does it show PCV-RX850?

I read in another forum about Sony computers being labeled wrong when manufactured:D Not really wrong...they call it different things for different regions that it is sold.

Your computer can support a maximum of 512MB in all three slots for a total of 1536MB. I can understand why you would need to upgrade...480MB of RAM, ouch:o

A company called Crucial has very good memory and is a well known company. They sell RAM for your computer. For a single 512MB stick it will cost you $18...for all threee sticks it will be $52.

You will see a major increase in performance if you upgrade from 480 to 1536.

The best thing always to do is call Sony support and get 100% confirmation about what is compatible with your system.

Thank you for the information.

Yes that's the number that is on the label "MODEL PVC 7762", it does not have any number or information in front, the label is on the back of the PC.
My PC is four years old, and thats why I try not to overload it with pic's, videos, or music.
Couple of weeks ago, a small screen on the bottom right corner pupped up telling me the the virtual memory was too low. My friend told me that it has to be with the number of programs that are running in the PC.
Last question, it has two hard drives, one 15GB and the other one 65GB. The 15GB or C drive is already full, Is it possible to send some of the programs or data that is stored in the C drive to the 65GB or D drive?

Thank you and have a great day.

ScOut, I visited Sony website to identify my computer, It did detect it as PCV-RX860. So the information on the label is wrong.
Thank you again.
