Messenger will not save my .NET password

Windows Messenger will not save my .NET password even when I check the box in the sign in dialog that sets it up to save the password.

I have Messenger set to open when I log in to Windows and to sign in automatically. It doesn't do this. I have to manually sign in each time.

I have used the .net passport wizard in control panel but everytime I reset my pc my setup will be gone. Also when I select the manage my network password there is no add option

How do I resolve this problem?

Are you using Windows Messenger or Windows Live Messenger? Windows messenger comes preinstalled with XP. Windows live messenger is a separate download. I suggest you stop using the default Windows messenger and download Windows live messenger.

I am using Live Messenger.. Ever since I installed live messenger that's when it started to ask me to type my email and password.

I have tried to uninstall live messenger but still unsuccessful. I have even tried using Windows Messenger again and it's still the same
 
I would suggest try opening a new account and see if the same thing happens. If not, then you have an issue with your old account. Or you could try deleting all your cookies, all your temporary internet files. Also, do you use outlook express as your email client?
 
I dont believe there is a problem with my account because its not saving my sister's email address and password aswell.

I have already tried deleting cookies and temporary internet files and its still the same.

I am really running out of ideas of what could be the cause of this issue.

I really appreciate your effort in trying to help me resolve this strange issue.

One option could be in Internet Explorer, by clicking Tools > Internet Options > Content > Autocomplete > Settings and checking the User names and passwords on forms and Ask me before saving passwords checkboxes.
 
I've found the solution to your problem. You can thank Yahoo toolbar for screwing up the registry. All you do is go to this registry key and change it back to normal.

[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-796845957-926492609-725345543-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders]

and set the value AppData to a data value of %USERPROFILE%\Application Data


I had the same issue when reinstalling windows. I found this and edited the registry and it fixed it.

This number might not be the same(mine wasn't anyway)796845957-926492609-725345543.
