MicroATX replacing an ATX

It's not as simple as yes or no. Does the new MicroATX motherboard support all your urrent hardware? If it does, yes. If it does not, no. You have to check.

When you bought it has nothing to do with it. Infact, from 2001, chances are it might have socket 478/754. Why do you want to go microATX might I ask?
 
There are many many many different kinds of hardware, the production year has nothing to do with it. That's like saying a truck tire made in 2001 should fit on my 2001 corvette...it just doesn't hold relevance.

What motherboard are you looking at buying, and what hardware will go on it? We can tell you if it will be compatible.
