The other day our isp sent us a nasty email saying there is a Bot.net zombie virus sending out spam mail and virus out onto the internet. Is there a free ware program like avast or something i can use to scan the server??

are you using a server to work on ?
Your ISP has detected viruses/worms on your network and is informing you.
Use a good AV like KASPERSKY or NOD32 cause this is a server not a workstation
 
well i intend to run a firewall on it (kerio winroute with Macfee built it) but for the time being i was looking for a cheap quick fix???
