Is it safe downloading from other than Microsoft site and what are the things to be taken care while getting from some other source other than Microsoft

Dont buy it online from Microsoft! I did that and they screwed me around so much, it was at least 4 weeks before I got my product key. Its so much easier to just go somewhere locally and buy a hard copy.
