Microsoft Exchange

Never used or set this up.

Just a small question on how it actually works!

You use microsoft outlook to connect to the server to recieve your emails?
You can also use the web interface to view your emails?

My issue would be this....

My ISP will not support a privately hosted mail server - I have tried setting up an SMTP server on my server before.

Can exchange simply act a standard mail client and download emails from a POP3 address, or multiple addresses, and use something similar to the rules wizard to place them into appropriate mailboxes if required?

Sorry, I know NOTHING of exchange as yet!

Re Exchange

Hi

Exchange can be a relatively complex application to set up and manage.

We have developed a small business server appliance that will deliver Exchange functionality (and many other services such as Internet security and other collaboration services) without the usual cost or hassle.

Please take a look at our site - http://www.sharptechnology.co.uk.

The initial set up (hardware & licensing) and ongoing support costs are around 50% of what exchange costs.

Should you wish to discuss, or see an online demo I can be contacted directly on 07739 710091.

Best Regards

Mark

Yes it can, but it is awful.

Your best bet is to get a hosted exchange server

If he cant host a mail server .. how would he use your product .. is it a hosted solution or something?

Exchange just does pop pulling poorly.

You can do that, but you are just adding complexity .. the simplest solution would to do hosted exchange .. if your goal is email.

If your goal is to learn exchange then just install it .. and run it. If your isp blocks your port 25, then you can sign up for a port redirect service. dyndns has a nice service that lets you send outbound email to them (home dsl connections are blacklisted on spam RBL) They can also recive your email, and foward it to your server on a port other then 25.

Thanks.

As I say, I have never used exchange.

I can obviously send email through my ISP using their SMTP server. Can exchange not send email this way too?
