I am going to buy Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002. But, do I need a joystick? If I get a joystick is it a pain to configure?

YES you are going to want to get a joystick of some kind. It is not even worth trying to use the flight sim if you do not have one. I have Microsoft flight simulator X and i bought a cheap Saitek St290 pro from walmart for $19.99 and it works on vista although it does not say it online or on the box. With that i did not have to configure anything because i plugged it in a usb port and it automatically installed the drivers for it

I'd go with FS2004 if I were you. It's almost the same as 2002, but some of the scenery is better.

I personally have a Saitek X52 Flight Control System. I think it's worth the $140 I paid last year, though the price has come down a bit on it.

Oh, and when you wana look for add-ons, look no further than the file library at SVSIM.com. You have to register to download and browse the library, but it's free.

And the best download by far is the Air Scheffel 737-800. It says FS2004, but it should work fine with FS2002 as well. Just google for a download location.

make sure you get one with twist, or yaw capabilities. Its really helpful when turning your aircraft (and pretty much required for helicopters IMO).

I don't know if that one has it or not.

I just bought the game! It is really good, but I still need to order a joystick. I see what you are saying about controlling the aircraft with a the keyboard. It is difficult.

I'd pay the extra $2 for the one with more buttons. They come in handy, I always set mine for flaps, spoilers etc.

Good to know. It is officially impossible to maneuver and land an aircraft with the arrow keys. I found an add-on site. It is www.fsfield.com. It has a lot of aircrafts. I have already loaded a few more planes. You can also add scenery.

yeah, I had FS 1998 and it was pretty cool. It had this option where you could click 'mouse as yolk' and move your mouse to steer the airplane - not available in the newer versions. Not without a mod anyway

Again, the file library at AVSim.com (free registration required) has loads of great files as well.
