ok so here is my situation, I bought microsoft streests and trips about 6 months ago, no problem with it or the gps receiver at all, however, the other night my dog decided it was a good idea to eat the cord and the gps receiver, so I guess my question is, is their any way to buy just the gps unit without having to buy the whole software package again...

thanks in advance....

I don't know of anything right off. Have you checked ebay or some site like that. Or how's the cable look? I'd imagine it should be a standard USB. I doubt it would be too difficult to resolder a new cable to it

thanks for the reply, unfortunetly its not the cable itself im worried about, its the actual GPS part of it, its made of a hard plastic and there is nothing I can do to fix it...

Well if you beleive the receiver's bad as well, perhaps it would be best to simply find a new one. Aside from the original, how about some other model? I would assume the software would work with other GPS units as most typically work in the same fashion. At least the older serial based units did. You can find decent handheld units for about $100 new.

Now, I'm not 100% sure one of these would work with your software, but I have used a few different units with older copies of Streets and Trips so I'd image most any standard GPS would work.

the problem with spending 100 dollars on a gps receiver is that i can buy the software with the gps unit for that ammount of money. I was hoping the microsoft would offer a replacement one for at least half of that.

I guess i will have to keep on looking.

Oh I'm sure you could find some for cheaper if you look around. Like I said, ebay and such. Besides, that was a handheld unit. There are probably ones similar to what you previously had that may for your price range. I'd seen some bluetooth/USB ones for about $50 here and there.
