I just got a little message on my task bar telling me on October 10, 2006 Support for Windows XP SP1 ends.

This kind of sucks since I use dial up I cant just go on the internet and download the updates

you can always goto a friend's house who has high speed internet connection or work, or pc cafe or whatever floats your boat and burn the SP2 file on a CD. now you're semi upto date.

Microsoft also offers Service Pack 2 on CD. And you can get SP2 thats only ~75MB, thats downloadable via dial-up.

Hardly. It would take about three (more like 2.8- rough estimate) days of downloading to actually get the file- and that's also without other internet usage.
I feel bad for everyone with dialup. I had it for several years and it wasn't a fun experience...

If you got a download manager like YSIGet, like I have, you can download the whole SP2 package (272MB) over a few days. You can stop the download and resume it as many times as you want until you get it all. It took me a week to do it, but I did get it all. Next up: Nero 6 update packages. Download managers are a Godsend for big DL's.

I'm gona get the cd sooner or latter. I would try and download it but since I share my dial up with 6 other people I don't have the time needed to download it.

This sucks, I personally hate SP2, it screws with everything! Now, they're not going to provide support for the one SP that actually helped the OS run better, geez...

Is there a way to see what the automatic update downloader is downloading? I'm 62% done with something and it has been downloading form weeks.
