microsoft outlook fails to send or receive messages

I have been using microsoft outlook for a long time and have suddenly started having a problem sending and receiving emails. I get a error message that states I cannot connect with server and I should check to see if I am on line. I checked all of the usual items such as my email settings and found no errors. My IE works fine and I do have a copy of Outlook Express that also works fine. I would like to avoid reloading Outlook as that entails loading all of ms office and that is time consuming. I have Microsoft Office 2007.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First thought is that you have picked up an IP address associated with a spammer. Reboot your router and try again.

Did it just stop working? If so, Go to File (I'm using 2003 so it may be slightly different), then check "use online".

You can reload Outlook without reloading the whole office package (do a custom install) but I dont think that will fix the problem.

Is your PC clear of viruses/malware?

Try doing a system restore back to a day when it was working correctly. You weren't messing with the server settings were you?
