Microsoft positioning to take over Logitech?

Will that change anything drastic? Except better drivers upgrade :P
I use Logitech stuff and personally I wouldn't mind taking over

Just another corporate takeover. Microsoft will soon create a monopoly in this industry just like so many other companies have in other industries already. A lack of competition really isn't good for the hardware accessory market, or any market for that matter. I like Microsoft and I think they make quality products, but I don't like seeing things like this happening all the time.

Just wait till Bill Gates retires... I have a feeling Microsoft won't be the same company after that... I think they're going to start going downhill a bit.

Here's some interesting speculation. Microsoft is rumored to be positioning themselves to launch a takeover bid of Logitech. They're already big in hardware accessories, but I can't help wonder what gain there would be to take over Logitech. Hmmm

I can see why microsoft would want to buy logitech.
one word "search"
search and online advertising is where the rivers of gold are for these giants, and microsoft is desperate to take on google. Most keyboards have search buttons, a microsoft keyboard would link to a msn live search feature. I would say a very large majority of non tech savy users may not reprogram that button to use google instead. Those non tech savy users also tend to be the ones who best convert to $$$'s in a lot of markets. That is no more evident in the way msn search, converts better than google traffic in some areas, although the volume is a lot lower.
I cant comment on the rest of the world, but when I go to a major retailer in Australia, they stock two major brands of keyboards, microsoft and logitech. If microsoft bought logitech, they could dominate the market of people who search by just hitting a button on their keyboard, and block google out of that market. Forget the low margins, on the keyboards, they could sell them at a loss and still make a profit from the search.
I think it would be a wise move on the part of microsoft.

Dear god no!

I love logitech's mice and other equipment, and while I use microsoft's operating systems, I can see them completely ******* this up. Prices will be jacked up while the quality will go way down.

Wow, i didnt even consider that until now.

After all it's not Gates who porgrams OS-s and software...

You have a point but i also get the feeling microsoft is starting to slip. It took them forever to release vista and then it wasnt nearly as amazing as it was built up to be.

woot, common apple. If only apple was cheaper.

I think there's another problem, there is no new discoveries so we can expect some big progress in OS-s. We need some change, smaller microchips or sth, we need AI, I want a computers to talk, we need a virtual games, which reminds me on this. Please watch it whole, the guy has headtracked into his computer using TV and it's one damn good virtual world!
He left a message to all people who create games and software at the end: And f you watched this, I want to see such games in the near future!

What's the market share of each company? I know in the U.K. if there is artificial growth (i.e. by takeover or merger) then the total market share of the combination must be less than 25% or the move is blocked, what is the rule in the U.S?

Yes that's the point..and the problem...
It's moret han 95%!!! No competition...
So, some people think that 'rumour' is started by Logitech, like they want to get some money, and there is a serious question, would M$ invest in their biggest competitor??
We shall all see...

Right, no competition so the costs will be astronomic high...maybe that's the only minus...

That can happen, but that's not what's happening in this case. Microsoft doesn't really have a huge market for peripherals as it stands, so it's not like the acquisition of Logitech is going to give them much more of a share of the market than Logitech has by itself. There are still lots of other brands out there that are competing in the same market.
