This is crazy, when i saw this topic, i pulled my mate over to have a read of the post and linked article. Were upset!!! I quite like yahoo but if Microsoft take ir over then they are just being greedy. I do not hate them but if they take Yahoo over then it would be that they own a majority of Instant Messaging cutstomers.

It's so much just one thing as to why they would want it. A good example would be a pie chart of all internet activities like web searching and marketing there as well as the various email and messaging services.
Look at Google seeing some 60% while MS and others share the remaining 40% give or take there. Where does the MSN search stand when compared to Yahoo alone? Not very far!
Now combine Yahoo with MS to see the bulk of that 40% used up in order to confront Google's competition. After a period of time Google may diminish down to 40-45% with MS and Yahoo combined to see 45-50%.
