Migrating a 2HDD into 1HDD raid0 WITH DATA to the same model motherboard

I like to move my 2 hdd raid0 array to a different motherboard of the exact same model. The old board broke. I don't want to screw around because I don't want to lose the data.

KEEPING THE RAID0 DATA IS A TOP PRIORITY

The mother is a p4c800e-deluxe. It uses an integrated raid controller promise MBFastTrack. If I am to reconnect the drives and everything else exactly like it did with the old motherboard. How should I use the bootup raid utility to get the motherboard to use my existing 2 drives as a raid0 and keep my data?

Integrated Raid controller = Promise Technology
Uses MBFastTrack Utility

im sure that if you plug the two drives into the same ports that they were on in the previous board it should work fine.

no, motherboards hold its own memory on which connector is configured to do what. I just want to make sure I don't delete the data while trying to configure the new one to do it.

as long as you tell it to create new array i dont see any problems, it raid setup program should pick it up as long as the right hard drive is connected to the right port

are you sure you know what you are talking about?
i was told "DO NOT CREATE NEW ARRAY"
use "DEFINE ARRAY"

and that "create" would wipe out everything on there.

this is business data. it is no joke. saving it is a must.

sorry, my brain got ahead of my fingers when i was typing and i missed dont. very sorry about that

To my knowledge, it should work, but i'd wait for some other opinions before trying it. As long as you don't tell it to create a new array or remove the existing one, it certainly shouldn't damage anything trying it. Make sure that the RAID settings are enabled on the new board's BIOS.

If all you are doing is switching motherboards to same model then all you have to do is make sure that the bios settings are correct for your raid setup. I just had to rma my asus board for a new one. I have raid 1 setup prior to switching. All i did was go into bios and set it for raid and off i went. New board recognized my raid and booted into windows and still have all my data.

:) :) :)

now we are getting somewhere

so all you had to do was set your MOTHEBOARD BIOS to raid?
You don't have to mess with the RAID BIOS / RAID UTILITY?

Nope, it was very simple for me. my drives were all ready set up in raid mode prior to the board change. if thats the case then all you have to do is make sure your new board bios settings get changed to raid mode and off you go.

2HDD to 1HDD raid0? what?

I'm not really sure what you mean by migrating a 2HDD into 1HDD raid0. Isn't it kind of impossible to do a 1HDD raid0?

However, if you are just changing motherboards, make sure the mobo is set up for a raid0 (like others have said) and drop the drives in.

You could always back up the information too - like you always should anyways. Try getting an external hd or setting up a raid 0+1. Just suggestions.

Assuming you configure your RAID controller the same way! :) Running the RAID controller as a IDE controller wont work (obviously)

Being so important why are you running it in RAID0??? (which is more unreliable than non-RAID and doesnt offer you any perofrmance prolly)
