Missing Files Mystery in Win7?

I hope I can explain this but I’ve noticed that my personal files are disappearing when I organize them into subfolders.

An example is that I just created a subfolder and moved a photo from within the same parent folder to the subfolder. Ok seemed to work ok, but the file was now showing in both folders and I assumed that something went wrong, so I pressed F5 to refresh and nothing changed.

I then tried to move it again only I used a command instead of dragging it and a popup window said there was a duplicate file already there. So I figured it must have copied instead of moved and I deleted it from the parent folder. So that didn’t work because now the file is gone from both folders.

Ok so I figure this must be some crazy Windows 7 thing of showing all the files in all the folders, so I went into the Recycle Bin and restore it. Then looked back in the subfolder, but now it’s completely gone. I can’t even find it using the search function. WTF!

What is happening to my files?

This is not the only time although its the first time I actually saw it.

I noticed last week that I was missing approximately 1000 photos and subfolders. I originally copied those files from another computer on the network and assumed that it must of done shortcuts instead of actual coping so I just copied again.

Its just in the regular Windows 'My Documents' C:\Users\Me\Documents\MyStuff\NewFolder.

The only thing different between Vista and Win7 that I see the "Public Documents" along with 'My Documents' from the Libraries Folder, but it doesn't matter if I go through the Libraries view or through the user-My Documents, they still are not there.
I also went back into the Recycle Bin and its not there either so I don't know where the Restore" sends stuff.

Ok so I just realized that the Recycle Bin has been open all this time so I did a Ctrl-Z for undo and the file came back in to the Recycle Bin. I was afraid to do another restore so I copied the file back to the new folder.

Only this time something else happened. All the files that I purposely deleted from my Documents are now back. Wow I don’t know what to do now, because I spent a couple of hour’s organizing all those files.

So now I'm totally confused by the restore function.

Don't do anything with the libraries. Just use the normal user folder. It's possible you did the restore all button instead of just restoring highlighted item.
