Missing memory

Hi everyone,

I have a problem in that a PC at work is saying it has approx 5gb space left of an 80gb hard drive.

However, when I count up the individual files on the hard drive it says that there are only 34gb of files there.

34gb seems far more likely that 75gb.

Can anyone help as to why this could be?

Thanks!

Have you run an error check on the hard drive? Sometimes hard drive errors can report the size and space of the drive incorrectly.

How did you come up with 34GB? Did you just select the folders on your HD and determine it that way?

It's going to be larger then if you just select the files, because theres the page file (several GB's), theres hidden files and folders, and then theres system files.

Run disk cleanup and download some 3rd party software that frees up space by deleting temp files.
