Missing Modem

Messing around with my old backup computer and I somehow uninstalled the modem. Now it doesn't show up in the Device Manager, so I'm assuming it is completly uninstalled. Any ideas how to get it back? I don't have any recovery options. CDs etc.

Dell 4300s with XP
V90 Internal D Fax modem

Thanks

just google the make and model of your modem, it should direct you to the makers site where you can download the correct drivers

Go back into device manager and scan for device changes or just reboot your system and it will detect and then it should automatically detect the correct drivers.

Turn computer off, remove dial up modem and reinsert into a different pci slot. Turn computer back on and it should recognize it unless the modem is bad.

Thanks John B. Your method seemed to have woked. Still think I may have a modem prob. but it's up for now. :D

Thanks for the other responses from the good members here.

It's a sporadic problem. Sometimes I can't connect to the internet. I check the device manager and at times the "network adaptor" is missing and at times the "Modem" is missing. So it's either a modem prob. or an ethernet card prob. It is not the connection, because I've always got green lights flashing on the back of the computer where the input cable connects.

This is confusing then. Are you using dialup internet or on dsl/cable internet?

Sounds like you are using ethernet cable meaning you have either dsl or cable. Meaning you don't need the dial up modem attached to the system.

I'm on cable internet. So your saying the Ethernet Card I installed when I switched to cable, takes the place of the V90 internal Modem, and I no longer need it? I guess if that's the case it kind of narrows it down to a problem with the Ethernet Card.

If you aren't using dial up internet, you won't need the v90 modem, remove it from your system. Is the ethernet card integrated into the motherboard or is it a dedicated card plugged into a pci slot?

If the dial up modem and lan card disappears from the device manager and then magically reappears then there is something wrong with the pci slots most likely, or perhaps the motherboard is starting to go out.
