ok i just downloaded and installed the kit and it is still not in the system32 folder and still does not work when i go to start, run. should i just manualy move one of them from the other folders to system32 ?

Actually this is the correct directory for msconfig to be in...

C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries

There is a setting in the registry to fix this. As soon as I can find it, i'll post it.

Look in the registry under this key to make sure location of msconfig is correct.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\MSCONFIG.EXE

This is what the registry key should read...

C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe

awww yes that worked perfect john i did start, run, regedit and went to the MSCONFIG.EXE and it only had \PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe so i added the C:WINDOWS\ and now it works THANKS !!

Your welcome, I'm glad you got it back. I've came across msconfig not working a few times due to malware infections and that fix has helped out each time.

yeah if you change the path of the binary (or executable in this case) and then the end user can't go in and disable that process from running at start up

clever little hackers they are.

yes very clever they are. Now i got another msconfig question ? i run it and pretty must disabled everything from starting up but now on start up get a system configuration utility message everytime. it says its "currently in diagnostic or selective startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the utility to run every time windows starts" is this normal, do i have to put up with this everytime i start up

Just put a check in the box and you'll never see it again, at least not until you change something in msconfig again.

the line for the check box says "dont show this message or launch the system configuration utility when windows starts"

so when i check that it starts windows normal with all the programs starting up

iam at work but when i get home i can try and get a screen shot or something if u want

It should not change to let all programs start up normally. Make sure you are clicking ok instead of cancel when unchecking programs.

this is what i get when i start up now
Yes, click the box then click Ok. The box will not come back again until you
edit the msconfig again.

All it's telling you is that it's been changed and it's running in Selective Startup
mode.

When you click the box, it changes nothing. You're settings will stay the way
you put them.

It just won't show the box again.
