Missing "system32/config file is missing or corrupted"

Can my saturday get any worse?
My compaq presario 5230sr have some imprant files like pictures, music,video etc in it! They were some memories pictures and such. Today i was gonna transfer my old hdd data to my new pc.

As i went shopping for 4 hours, i came home and the old computer said "system32/config file is missing or corrupted" something like that

I am very mad atm because ive lost allll my files. Is there anyway to get those file back? Or is my life screwed!?

Im upset so as my family. Of there a way to fix this i would love to know.

There are 2 ways to fix this issue.

1. If you have the windows install cd, you can boot to it and do a repair install, if not, then you are forced to do #2.

2. Use the following procedure on how to use the recovery console on to do a "system restore"

Follow resolution B on that page. This procedure works as long as you have access to an XP install cd.
