hi,

i hav 2 DIMM slots in my comp. 1 of the DIMMs slot has a 256mb DDR SDRAM module atm runnin at 333mhz. the other DIMM slot is free atm. therefore i want 2 ask if i can buy another module which is different to the 256mb 1 e.g different brand, different capicity (each DIMM slot can hold upto a max of 1gb) etc? or do i hav 2 buy them in pairs?

thks

they dont have to bought in pairs, you can use any kind/speed, as long as your m/b supports them, sdram, ddr, etc. If the ram is different speeds however, they will run at the slower speed.

k, thought so
well here's another thing: i just went onto pcworld lookin 4 memory modules. they hav 2 sections: DDR memory, SDRAM memory and SODIMM memory. under which section should i make my purchase cos my original module is DDR and SDRAM???

thnks

Under DDR then. Most places call DDR SDRAM (aka PC2100/2700/etc) DDR, SDRAM (aka PC133/100/etc) SDRAM, and SODIMM is laptop memory.

k, got that sorted but now i hav another problem:
i hav no idea if my current 256mb DDR SDRAM module is PC2100 OR PC2700. my motherboard supports PC2100/PC2700, and wot i've read from RAM101, i can get a PC3200 module. however as i don't kno if my current module is PC2100 OR PC2700, and if it was a PC2100, can i add a PC3200 module into my free DIMM slot?

thnks

p.s wot does PC2100/PC2700/PC3200 mean????

pc3200 = 200 mhz x double data = ddr400
pc2700 = 166 mhz x double data = ddr333
pc2100 = 133 mhz x double data = ddr266

cheers, got that.
i think i'm goin 2 get a 512mb DDR SDRAM pc3200. it's only £40.00 :)also i found out that my 256mb DDR SDRAM is a pc2700- even betta :)
