Mixer program

I am looking for some freeware mixer (i think) software. What I want to be able to do is change the Bass, treble, left, right, fade and such that the computer puts out. I know that some programs, Like I tunes and some games have one built in, but is there one that will change the default output of the speaker jack?

Never used any freeware, but have seen some Sound Cards have that built into the Drivers, also some Music Players have the controls. I use Winamp, and it has a equalizer built in.

I believe that the drivers on my old Rocketfish 7.1 PCI card had the equalizer built into it.

I dont need it for music. Im using Itunes and it has one, But the overall sound quality coming out of the laptop with video (from the net, youtube and netflix (hulu too)) is just screwed up. It has way too much bass. Its not a driver problem (patched to newest), its just a audio setup thing.

Maybe someone can come along with one soon User0one.

Have you taken a look at your audio whether it be onboard or sound card. I've yet to see one in recent years without a mixer/equalizer (and probably atmospheric settings). Even the Windows audio settings in XP has tone controls. What audio do you have?

Raeltec HD integrated. As was stated its a laptop. Pretty much everything is integrated.

this is the only settings that I can find in windows without getting lost in the gauntlet of gadgets and options in the control panel.

Realtek HD should definitely have controls. It's the Realtek Sound Manager. In your screenshot you have the volume control. Have you tried right-clicking on that? Next try Control Panel > Realtek HD Sound Effect Manager. Failing that try Programs> Realtek and failing that Program Files > Realtek. Appearance may vary:

my apologies. Farther Control panel research shows that the audio device is IDT, and the Realtec device is the LAN port.
The driver thats installed for audio has no mixer. I see no mixers anywhere in the control panel. Ive tried searching for Mixer and Audio, even audio mixer, but it shows nothing.

I got the driver from here

There's not much info on that IDT codec, not even at their site. Very poor. I looked at the manuals for that notebook. HP are very short on detailed information but it does seem there are no audio controls other than the Windows ones.

Try the Windows controls if they exist on the machine. Control Panel, Sounds, Audio tab, Playback, Volume Button, Advanced Button (bass and treble controls) or something like that. Win7 is a bit different I think. It's possible there is no tone control - netbooks are what they are.

Other than that I don't know of any standalone. As User0one mentioned, various players have equalizers but no good for your games.

I vaguely recollect that long ago, I used an audio recorder to change tone but that was not convenient for normal use.

The windows install is a retail install (HDD failure and idiocy at HP caused this). All the HP drivers are loaded though. and just for the record, its a bit bigger than a netbook, 15.6" I think.
I will try that control panel thing when I get home to see if it helps.

I wonder if there may be a USB sound processor that I could run to solve this? or a way to get the ATI HD audio out through the speaker port. The ATI HDMI audio doesnt have the problem.

My typo, it's a notebook. I don't know how the ATI fits in with the IDT. If it's simply the equivalent of a player, it does not help you. Most players have equalizers.

Its audio out through the HDMI port. It has a separate driver (CCC) and seems to work fine on my HD TV, but I verywell cant take that with me when i go out of town.

Im pretty sure that the issue is with either the IDT driver or the audio out port on the lappy itself. I may try and uninstall the driver and reinstall to see if that helps any.

I found a pdf on their site that shows a number of codecs having "HW EQ" or Integrated HW EQ with compressor and limiter. That may be an equalizer. I can't post a link because I cannot get back to the document. I have a downloaded copy (IDT_PCAudio_Codec_revA3.pdf). The codecs are 92HD90B, 92HD91B, 92HD98B, 92HD99B. Their site is incredibly awkward to navigate since all links are javascript so you don't know what they connect to and end up going round in circles.

I also found a comment about using the OEM codec.

Edit: I found the pdf link to their codec list on this webpage

Edit 2: I also found a link to an HP solution. It may not be any use to you but may point to something that is. I don't have time to check it out.
