lol ok...im new here so...HI! Anyway, Im 17 and from Canada. I've just started the whole learning process of overclocking etc. I have this old 166 mhz computer. It has a AM486DX4 processor. I also know the type of LLX for use with stuff like softfsb etc. The super neat thing is (I dont know if this is normal for a motherboard or not) my motherboard or wtva the thing is that my processor is mounted on, has a bunch of weird info on it. It has like info for chaning the type of processor...heres a link I found that has the info: MB-8433AEP ANYWAY....from what I understand...by changing a few jumpers(dnt worry I know how to do those...common sense etc..) I CAN MAKE MY COMPUTER HAVE A WHOLE DIFF PROCESSOR!!?!?! ...Or Can I? please help me. Also, in the above web page...under the table named CPU TYPE CONFIGURATION and CPU TYPE CONFIGURATION (CON’T), can somebody tell me what the best processor is in that table, so I can morph (if possible) my processor into one of those if they are better. btw, I want to overclock my Dell optiplex GX1 too someday...I currently have a HP m7350n computer with 2 gigs of RAM and Dual core w00t w00t. 2 processors, each 2.8 ghz muahahahaha!!! :D Anyway, thanks for all your help in advance!!!!! :D

oh btw...are there any utilites/tools etc that work with windows 95 (the system it is running) to change fsb/cpu clock speeds?

You cant change your processor from the bios or whatever. All you can do is OC, but its still the same processor.

wow that sux....oh well. I couldnt find any utilites that would overclock on windows 95. they wouldnt run. know any???

Also, in that computers BIOS...it has a thing about clock speed or something. HOWEVER, it gives ratios like: 1/2, 1/4, 1/6, 1/8, and stuff like that. It also has one that says 7 point something mhz. The default setting it was originally at was 1/4.

Thats the ratio from your CPU frequency to your ram frequency. Look for something that says FSB or frequency in your bios.

Read this - http://www.computerforum.com/16346-overclocking-101-oc101.html

Should explain all the things you are seeing.

This is mroe related to the actual CPU, but it has good information as well - http://www.computerforum.com/13239-cpu-101-a.html

You don't have to read the entire thing, although it is all good information. Simply search for any terms you might be confused on, or BIOS options. It should all be in there, if not, post it back ehre and someone will probably know an alternate name for it.

wake up guys
hes using a 486 on a win95 box... do you really think the setting are going to be in bios. You talking jumper territory

Dont worry most of you were in nappies in 95 anyway :D

But unfortunatly the jumper options for that board will not give you much if any overclocking room, sorry buddy.

PS That setup is vintage

That was about the time I started getting into computers and I was just a little older then Teletubby. Actually, a 486 with with win95 freshly installed is what I learned on. Yea, I think that was all jumpers, no bios overclocking there.
