anyone notice that western mmo have weak melee sound effect? and cant really feel it?
why is western mmo such as wow, war, spellborn, guild wars, lotro, eq2, vanguard ect.. have weak melee sound effect? why cant it sound like lineage2? aion? reign of revolution? soul of the ultimate nation? hellgate? silverfall? diablo? beowulf-ps3? lotrCongquest? ninja gaiden? devil may cry? tekken? soul calibur?i kindda dont stick with games that has weak melee sound effect.
it seems that western only have weak melee sound effect on their mmo and not their console games. 97% eastern have awesome melee sound effect on both mmo and console but recently some eastern mmo copy westerns weak sound effect.... runes of magic and 4story..... they should of stick to their route.

western mmo www.youtube.com/watch VS. tekken www.youtube.com/watch
western mmo www.youtube.com/watch VS. aion www.youtube.com/watch
western mmo www.youtube.com/watch VS. lineage 2 www.youtube.com/watch
western mmo www.youtube.com/watch VS. lotrConquest www.youtube.com/watch
western mmo www.youtube.com/watch VS. beowulf the game www.youtube.com/watch
western mmo www.youtube.com/watch VS. blade and soul www.youtube.com/watch

many more example but lazy to look up now. oh and prince of persia for ps2 used to have weak melee sound effect but now their next gen game for ps3 now have awesome sound effect like soul calibur. www.youtube.com/watch

why western mmo have weak melee sound effect? how can people play wow to lv 70+ ? i didnt last long on wow.. only play for couple hours then quit. are all western mmo get their melee sound effect from same sound-supplier? in eq2 you hear mostly wind sound even when you hit the target. wind sound supose to be when evade/miss. am i saying anything wrong? do you agree with me? whats up with all these weak melee sound effect in western mmo but not western console?

Most don't care about sound effects...least to the length that you audiophiles do.

Maybe 10% of the gaming population really demand such sound so they focus more on other things and use generic sounds.

I wont lie I love a good sound as much as anyone else but it wouldn't totally ruin a game for me...also reason why WoW lasts so long for most is playing with friends and always new content to play around with...or so I believe.

For the same reason why MMORPG's don't have the latest and greates graphics as well. In most MMORPG's you load then entire map, or a large portion of it. They don't throw amazing graphics in there because loading great visuals over that large of an area would kill anyone's frame rates. Sound also has to be processed as well. Sure you can buy a sound card that's better than an onboard one but it will still get hit hard with great sound quality over all that area.

I'd have to say WAR has pretty damn good graphics for an MMORPG.

Then you obviously haven't seen Age of Conan. For an MMORPG Age of Conan has great graphics, but compared to a genre like FPS's where they tend to have the best graphics they suck. And I think Guild Wars has pretty good graphics for an MMORPG but they separate the characters into groups when you leave a town so that's a reason for it.

Then you obviously didn't describe what you were trying to say clearly enough. You said "the same reason why MMORPG's don't have the latest and greates graphics as well." It looked like you were stating no MMORPGs had decent graphics, which was wrong to state that, because even you contradicted yourself.

And FYI, I've seen Age of Conan.

... I'm still trying to comprehend what you said. There is a difference between decent graphics and the best graphics. Decent graphics would be something like shadow run, and the best would be farcry 2. A very wide marine set there.

As for what you quoted me on I have no idea how that goes into your response at all. I was trying to explain to him why MMORPG's don't always the best sound by comparing it to the same reason why they don't have the best graphics. I suggest you reread through my original post one more time.

First off, you're naming an RPG game and an FPS/Action game, while comparing MMORPGs, which leads me to my second statement. The words amazing graphics and MMORPG don't really go together, since there is so much to cover and much more to do, take WoW for example.

No

No

and No.

They have better graphics than most other MMO's but that wasn't what I was talking about when I was mentioning MMO graphics.

To get away from the slanging match going on, in the first post, is it only me thinking since when has tekken been MMO?

Online yea maybe, but MMO refers to either a game with lots of people, like PC fps games with 40 odd person matches, or a huge world like lotro, WoW, guild wars etc. Neither of those tekken has

Oh, and also Blade & Sould looks SO good. If it has no subscription charges i will so be onto that when it comes out, if the developers can decide WHEN it is going to come out, 2009-2011 is a little vague for my liking :P

For the sound thing yea, western games tend to have less quality in the sounds that asian games, but look at the popularity comparison: WoW, lotro, WAR, guild wars all are going strong (especially WoW) because they have superior gameplay, look at the other list and they are nowhere near as popular as their western counterparts, heck, hellgat isn't even going any more it was that unpopular! Sound clearly isn't the main part of an MMO, it is the gameplay and how immersive it is that make people want to play and carry on playing

hellgate is concider a mmo but more of a mini mmo and instance-base. it have nice sword slashing sound but why dont the full-fledge mmos with immersive huge world have nice melee sound effect?
