Mobile CPU

I am using a laptop with a 3.6GHz pentium 4 but CPUz is telling me that it is running at 1.8GHz. Is this something to do with the "mobile" part.

It's probably just underclocked to save power. Find some real time processor speed viewer...thingy, and watch it when you do something like load a shockwave video or something. My sempron runs at 800MHz most of the time when on dynamic switching...though I just lock it at 800MHz to save power and heat.

thats exactly what it did.
my uncle bought an alienware with a p4 3.6ghz(LOTS OF ELECTRICITY)
it underclocks itself to 2.94ghz while unplugged.
yea, it saves alot of power but the thing has 6800ultra go graphics so the battery only lasts like an hour unplugged anyways... funny lol

That could be the speed step feature, where when on battery it drops to a low clock speed to increase battery life.

Boot it up on mains and Start>(Right Click My Computer)>Properties

Have a look now what the clock speed is ...should say 3.6GHz.

I know this happens with my Pentium M 2.13GHz which should be similar performance if not better because its overclocked to 2.45GHz.:)

Hope this helps

(btw mine, when off mains drops to 917MHz)
