Mobile Desktop

Hey,
I will be switching between two houses, (Divorced parents) every few days and I would prefer to get a desktop over a laptop. The issue is solely mobility. I am looking to buy somewhere in the price range of 1500-2000.

I am currently in highschool for 2 more years. When I go to college I would probably go for a large case and upgrade a few components.

Is it possible and sensible?

I would most likely buy two keyboards, mouses, and monitors which I would keep at each house and just move the actual computer back and forth. I am looking for the smallest case possible that could hold everything for a decently high end gaming rig with good cooling.

I am pretty heavily in gaming. I am currently playing Starcraft II and will probably be playing a new MMO called Rift in the coming months.

I am looking probably at Intel (New SB chip). Probably 8gigs of RAM. High end GPU. 500gigs-1TB of space.

I will probably figure out the configuration on my own, but I am just trying to figure out if what I am doing makes sense and also if anyone could recommend a case that would fit my needs.

tl;dr Gaming laptop or desktop? Looking for case recommendations for mobility

I appreciate any feedback.

They call them LAN gaming rigs I believe. They are meant to be taken to LAN Parties. You get a mini ATX case. Look at this link, not to buy from them but to see what I mean. I know nothing about this company and sure you can build on your own.

I like notebooks but the cost to performance will advantage mini ATX.

Good luck.

Thanks, this has helped alot.

One quick question. Looking on newegg, what is showed in that link seems to be under "MicroATX". What is the difference between the two?

The first "mini" looks like the micro they list on site. Marketing is all I can figure. I hope others with more knowledge chime in. Good luck on this.

Silly question, but what are your arrangements like? Do you usually take the bus to both your parents houses or do they pick you up?

I'm asking because you obviously won't be able to take a desktop with you to school to bring to your parents house every other day, and constantly unplugging and replugging in everything is bound to take a toll on the connections.

From the few friends that had divorced parents, they usually had a gaming rig at one parents and just a regular desktop/laptop at their other parents.

They will be picking me up.

I might just go with a laptop, it would probably be easier. But idk yet.
