Mobile Video Cards

This has been bugging me for the past few weeks. I bought my laptop awhile back when it first came out with Vista (Asus G1). The laptop came with a go7700, which is a very solid GPU for my needs, but since the Santa Rosa update and DX10 cards being introduced into laptops, the new GPU that comes with the G1 is the 8600gt 256 mb. Now I'm wondering how much better is this than my gg 7700 512mb? Is the difference a big one? Or am I just paranoid about new technology.

The 8600GT performs a bit better, but it's really nothing to get excited over.

Sure it supports DX10, but once DX10 games start to become distinguishable from DX9 games, the 8600GT probably wont even be capable of running them well. So I would stick with your laptop for a while longer until they come out with some new DX10 mobile cards, and some DX10 games so you can see how well they perform.

Have a look at this site, it compares a bunch of laptop video cards, including the 7700 and 8600.
