MOBO Password +Windows instal?

i recieved my grandfathers computer when he passed away and i think its time to reinstall windows xp. only problem is that the boot sequence is set to boot straight from the HDD. and there is a password set to get into the settings. so does anyone know a way around this? will removing the Cmos battery reset the password option?

thanks for the confirmation. also, will removing the battery have any adverse affects on the mobo? i'm not worried about window cause im reinstalling anyway. just wondering. thanks again.
 
well i just tried it and it didnt seem to work. i removed the battery/power cable/and turned off the psu switch. i even waited about a min for any diods or such to loose power. maybe i'll try removing the MOBO power cable just incase.
 
yepp the PSU must of had a quite the charge left in it... guess that makes sense though. i just REunpluged everything and mobo pwr cable this time, waited about 3 min and it cmos came up without the pwd promt this time. thanks for the help tatter dude. :D
