Mobo rejecting CD Drive

I built my friend a new, cheap computer for gaming under a really tight budget. It booted up and everything, when I hit "any key to boot from CD" it said there was a hardware problem. I tried the drive on my comp and it worx fine. Is the mobo the only other thing that could be damaged? When I get the chance im going to hook up my hardware to his mobo and see if anything worx, but before that happens does anyone know if there might be a problem somewhere else, or is this another DOA mobo. The mobo was very cheap btw.

Thx.

Are you trying to load XP?
You may have to use a PATA drive.
You can also try different SATA ports. Try the hard drive on SATA 1 and the optical drive on SATA 2. You can also flip them around and give it a try.
You may want to look around in the BIOS. Some need to be set so the SATA optical drive is bootable. Same goes for the hard drive.

Good luck!

the HD is IDE since he is using it from his old comp, the disk drive is SATA. I tried both SATA ports but still nothing, ill take a look in bios like you said.
