mobo up in "smoke" literally

Hello all. I built a P4 system last year. I used an Asus P4P800E Deluxe mobo, P4 3.0 ghz, 80gb SATA Seagate HD, 1 gbyte of Kingston valueram.

It has worked wonderfully for awhile now. Until something happened last week.

Static electricity. I shocked myself on my computers case while picking my cell phone up. Suddenly, I smelt that horrible smell of electronics burning. I look into my case, and I see the black chip (with Asus written on it) glowing and smoking... on fire.

Killed the system, put out the "fire." Sat there for a minute wondering if that really happend or not.

Well.. assuming the Mobo is the only thing I need to replace.. does this mean that I will have to start all over from scratch and re-install windows and everything like I did when I first built the system? Or if I change out the mobo's will it start back up like it normally did?

The reason I'm asking is because I don't know whether or not to order another HD along with the motherboard... and use the old HD as a data slave and the new one as the new boot drive.

Just not sure here. Any info I get is appreciated very much.

Heya

If you manage to get the same motherboard as before, then you would not need to change anything and should work as before. In this case, you would not need to be getting the new HDD. However, if I were you, I would make sure that this time, you would install a fan on the part that you were saying caught on fire....southbridge?
